In the (f) in subparagraph of the Article 13 of the Decree Law about the Organization and Duties of Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation related to the tasks of Geographic Information Systems General Directorate; “making the necessary arrangements for the establishment of Urban Information System in a standard and widespread manner” task has been given to our Ministry.
For this purpose, “Determination Urban Information System Standards Project" carried out by the Ministry includes business packages such as; examination of the legislation of the services offered by local governments related to spatial data associated that they base on/associated with; examination of the required governance structure, personnel and human resources, data access mechanisms, the available data and content, software and hardware infrastructure to set up the data infrastructure; determination of the necessary data content (class detail, geometry, probable attributes), the level of data (use scale or resolution), the attributes and topological relationships, consistency and timeliness, the production method of data representing the class details; examination of examples of good practice schemes in developed countries, detailed catalogs and data exchange formats; generating data sets supporting spatial data management and UIS applications at the local level and towards spatial data sets; determination of the Generic Conceptual Model Component enabling the interoperability of data; defining the standard application schema for spatial database model of UIS geographic datasets; development of UIS data exchange format; preparation of the draft legislation containing the administrative and institutional arrangements necessary for the installation and dissemination of the UIS by the local governments in a sustainable way.
In order to finalize the analysis and modeling conducted in the said project with suggestions, views and contributions of the enforcement authorities; a workshop will be held from 9 to 11 July 2012 at "The Green Park Pendik Hotel & Convention Center”, in Istanbul.
